The European Union decided recently to allocate 15mn euros to African countries to set up joint funds to finance scientific research in the continent.

 The Egyptian programme manager of research and development and innovation, Hamid Zuheiry, stressed, early in March 2010, the importance of ministerial agreement on strengthening intra-African cooperation in the fields of science and technology to achieve a comprehensive scientific renaissance of the continent. He also highlighted the need to manage financial resources provided by foreign parties to Africa - in particular the European Union, Japan, China and South Korea - in order to achieve a comprehensive scientific renaissance of the continent.
