The Nigerian government has reiterated its target of using coal to generate 30 per cent of the country’s electricity by 2015
Musa Mohammed Sada, Nigeria’s minister of mines and steel development, said that the plan had received presidential approval and was part of the present administration’s transformation agenda.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, Sada said that collaborations and partnerships with investors and stakeholders were being pursued to ensure the government’s targets on its coal-powered electrical supply would be achieved.
“Exploring and exploiting solid mineral resources for the benefit of Nigerians and investors is the ministry’s core mandate,” Sada remarked.
“We are ready to partner with anybody who has the wherewithal towards the actualisation of that mandate,” he added. “We can talk to such persons and they can talk to us.”
Sada made the declaration during a visit to Kogi State where he said the federal government was ready and willing to partner with the region’s government and local investors to develop the state’s vast mineral resources.
