Honeywell and GE to build 150MW power plant in Nigeria

Honeywell Group and General Electric (GE) have entered into an agreement to develop Honeywell’s 150MW power generation facility in Ogun State, Nigeria

According to the Honeywell Group, the agreement, signed on behalf of its subsidiary Hudson Power, forms part of the the company's strategic plan to achieve 1,000MW of power generation capacity in Nigeria by the end of 2018.

A report in Nigerian daily, Vanguard, stated that GE would be responsible for supplying turbines to the Hudson Independent Power facility.

Chris Bale, CEO of GE, said, “Honeywell has signed a MoU with GE for the first phase of the project, which will generate 150MW. It is intended that GE will supply the turbines for this plant. Other opportunities for joint working will also be explored.

“Apart from the generation license, Honeywell Group has also secured an offer of gas supply, power transmission and evacuation approval for the 150MW phase of the project, located just north of Lagos. This is at a relatively advanced stage of development with a target of commercial operations starting in early 2015.”

Bale said he was sure of Honeywell’s capacity to deliver on the project, stating that the company was committed to developing the facility.

“The Honeywell Group has a track record of successfully building businesses that have redefined critical sectors of the Nigerian economy,” Bale added.
