Geregu II is a follow-up project to the Geregu I power plant, which Siemens built back in 2006. The company is supplying three SGT5-2000E gas turbines, the electrical equipment and an SPPAT3000 instrumentation and control system for the 434-MW plant, which it will build as a turnkey project.

The power plant market in Nigeria offers good prospects for plant vendors. An installed power plant capacity of approximately 6,000MW is the mid-term target.
"After construction of the Afam andGeregu I power plants the order for Geregu II marks a further milestone for Siemens in Nigeria andin Africa," said Michael Suess, CEO of the Fossil Power Generation Division of Siemens Energy.

"With the latest project the number of Siemens heavy-duty gas turbines in Nigeria will increase to eight," added Suess. "The centrally located power plant is of strategic importance for grid stabilityand is therefore a key project for power supply in our country," said James A. Olotu, ManagingDirector and CEO of NDPHC.

Back in March 2010, Siemens had received an order from Dangote Cement Works Ltd. (DCWL) to build a power plant approximately 100km north of Lagos, to supply power to a new cement works. The Siemens scope of supply for the new plant, with an installed capacity of 113MW, includes three SGT-800 gas turbines.
