After visiting the construction site, Makame Mbarawa, works, transport and communications minister, said, “The project is progressing well and it is in line to the set target of 45.4 per cent as indicated in the timeframe.”

Reporting to the Tanzania Daily News, Mbarawa revealed that in February 2017, the construction work reached at 25 per cent, and said that the flyover is progressing in accordance to meet the scheduled completion by end of October 2018.

He further added that the contractor has done a satisfactory job from the quality of the set up structures, considering there are no accidents recorded since the construction began.

The sources reported that the Tanzanian government is monitoring the progress of the project to ensure that the work is completed on time, pledging for further supervision to speed up the progress in order to reduce the duration of the project.

"Earlier, completion of the flyover will offset the prevailing costs and time caused by current traffic jams experienced by road users and in turn increase productivity, which means a boost to the country's economy," said Mbarawa.

Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) and Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co.,Ltd. (SMCC) signed a contract on 15 October 2015, for the construction of the flyover in Tanzania under the framework of the grant aid project supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

According to the source, Masaharu Yoshida, Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania, assured the Tanzania government of timely completion of the project while observing the set international standards as per the agreement.
