Global air transport communications provider SITA is launching new-generation connectivity across Kenya Airways’ global network as an infrastructure investment that is aimed to support the airline’s focus on cost optimisation and airline modernisation

Kenya Airways plans to use the company’s latest communication technology to improve efficiency in the management of its route network while ensuring best passenger experience across the airline’s global footprint.

SITA Connect will allow the airline access to high-speed, secure connectivity and enable it to link employees and sales offices around the world to Kenya Airways’ central systems and applications and manage reservations, check-in, boarding and other functions, a press release by the company said.

Kenya Airways group managing director and CEO Mbuvi Ngunze revealed that the decision to appoint SITA is part of a plan to reposition the airline.

“As we seek to position Kenya Airways for the future, we needed a single communications partner that could take care of all our connectivity requirements no matter where we operate. SITA, with its truly global footprint and experience, provided us with a world-class solution supported by a local presence in each destination, connecting even the furthest outstation to our hub in Nairobi.”

According to SITA, it will provide tailored solutions for each location to meet the airline’s complete connectivity requirements. SITA’s AirportHub, a shared connectivity platform, will eliminate the complexity of dealing with local telecom providers and enable Kenya Airways to connect securely to central systems and applications from any airport in the network.

SITA president, Middle East, India and Africa Hani El-Assaad, added, “Today connectivity on demand is the lifeline of any airline, ensuring the smooth and rapid exchange of information needed to support effective operations no matter where in the world an airline operates, the size of their operation or their business model.”

He added that SITA aims to use its global experience and presence to provide Kenya Airways with the latest communication solution that is able to cater to their own specific requirements.
