O nce this project evolves, Ghana is set to benefit from a new alumina refinery following the successful selection of MYTILINEOS as a strategic partner that will work with GIADEC to deliver Project 3A, one of four projects being executed under the Integrated Aluminium Industry (IAI) projects. Based on this, the company will soon commence necessary studies with the aim of gradually developing mining activities, reaching an annual production capacity of 10mn tons of bauxite. The area containing the deposits under concession, designated as Ninayhin Block C, is estimated to possess geological reserves of approximately 300mn tons of bauxite and the anticipated yield of around 10mn tons of bauxite annually is equivalent to an estimated annual turnover of US$500mn at current market prices. MYTILINEOS, in collaboration with GIADEC, will assess the potential construction of an alumina production unit, projecting an annual production capacity of up to 1.5mn tons. These initiatives align with the broader strategic plan of MYTILINEOS regarding its mining activities, emphasising supply chain security, expanding bauxite supply sources, and strengthening its presence across all stages of the aluminium industry value chain. In 2022, MYTILINEOS implemented a MYTILINEOS has secured a prospecting license from the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) in Northwest Africa for exploring and extracting bauxite deposits.
