Buhari commends Nigeria's progress in World Bank's doing business ranking

Muhammadu Buhari, the President of Nigeria, has lauded the phenomenal improvement of Nigeria on the World Bank’s doing business latest rankings that was released on 31 October 2017

Nigeria has moved up 24 places in the ranking, with further being reported by the World Bank to be among the top ten reformers globally.

The President congratulates all Nigerians on this significant step forward which symbolises the success achieved by the presidential enabling business environment council (PEBEC), the National Assembly and State Governments in making it easy for people to register their businesses in a faster way, obtain licenses and approvals from government agencies without encountering unnecessary bureaucratic bottlenecks.

Speaking to the press, Buhari said, “It also reflects our efforts to make it easy for foreign business visitors to obtain visa on arrival, pass through our airports and do their businesses with ease and speed."

He named PEDEC, chaired by Yemi Osinbajo, vice-president, as a significant contributor to bring the country up in the ranking list, noting that he looks forward to even greater achievements for the nation.

The World Bank’s doing business project aims to provide objective measures of business regulations for local firms in 190 economies and selected cities at the sub national level. According to the October report, the governments in 119 economies carried out 264 business reforms during the last year in order to create more jobs, employment opportunities, attract investment and become more competitive in global market scenarios.
