South African representatives said Ghana and South Africa should strengthen trade ties at a business seminar hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry in Accra on 19 March

Lulama Xingwana, high commissioner of South Africa in Ghana, said that South Africa and Ghana should strengthen bilateral economic relations and promote intra-Africa trade.

The comments come just as 44 countries on Wednesday signed the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The AfCFTA is aimed at boosting trade relations between African nations through a single market.

“The importance of Ghana to South Africa as an anchor partner country within the West African region is affirmed by the continuous presence of South African delegations in the country, as well as the presence of South African companies that have expanded their businesses to Ghana,” Xingwana said.

“In this regard, we continuously encourage South African businesses to seize opportunities that Ghana presents for trade and investment,” chief director of Trade Invest Africa at the Department of Trade and Industry, Zanele Sanni said.
