Faure said that his government had set a target of generating 25 per cent of the country's energy production through renewable sources in 2030 and its entire energy requirement through renewable sources by 2050.

Faure also highlighted initiatives including installation of 10,000 LED street lamps across the main islands by 2020 and the building of two solar farms.

The initiatives could boost energy production of the island nation, which relies almost entirely on imported oil to meet its energy needs, according to the Seychelles Investment Board.

The event was co-chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The International Solar Alliance, a treaty based inter-governmental alliance of 121 solar resource rich countries, was first presented as an idea by Modi at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris.
